Description: Perennial prickly shrub, fast growing and can reach 10 m; not climb, rests, has any tendrils. Elliptic leaves to 10cm long, narrow base and acute apex, glabrous or pubescent; there variegated varieties. It is deciduous in temperate regions, and evergreen in the tropics.
It blooms in spring, summer to autumn. To highlight all its flowers, but its splendid bracts that surround the flowers. They are of various colors: white, pink, crimson, purple, yellow, and beige, among others.
Habitat: warm climates, without frost.
